While most house alteration projects are concerned with an addition or alteration to the rear of the property, largely out of view from the street, St Kilda Gable End House required a front to back design solution to completely transform the appearance and spaces of the existing eighties red brick house.

A low hip roof that limited connection to the garden was lifted and in its place a glazed and battened gable roof form provides natural light into the living rooms and cover to a naturally lit outdoor entertaining room.

The new swimming pool and guest quarters over a garage provide space for this family to grow into. The large triangular planting screens fixed to the timber-clad elevation of the studio enhance a garden outlook from inside.
